The Now is a 30-40 minute set of improvised musical experiments by a small group of musicians who may or may not have ever performed together. The musicians bring their instrument(s) of choice and perform in combinations that are directed by the producer. They only speak to each other through their instruments creating, in the present moment, a single seamless piece of music that has never been performed before and will never be performed again. A different combination of musicians perform each concert.
The Now is inspired by the Evolution of Sound concerts that I co-produced with Scott Bookman and the Lancasphere Sound Collective (2014-2016). Evolution of Sound is a round robin format of improvisation with ten total musicians who rotate through pairs every five minutes until all join in at the end of the performance. Lancaster concert promoters, Series 42, continue to produce Evolution of Sound at Modern Art through their Tiny Modern Concert Series. Those shows are highly recommended!
At The Sixth Floor we’re excited to provide a space for musical experimentation and improvisation that fosters unique magical moments that can only be created in The Now.
